| The
art of fly fishing has been around for many years. It’s hard to
say for sure how it first started. Many say that it must have been out
of necessity for food, but we can't pinpoint when.
Fly fishing has changed dramatically in the past 30 years with in invention of lighter and stronger materials for rod construction. It has made the sport far more enjoyable and has meant that you don’t finish a days fishing feeling like you have been at the gym all day! As a fly fisherman our aim is to fool a fish (not necessarily a trout) in to thinking that the mass of furs and feathers that we are throwing at them is a real form of food that they would normally survive on. We can fly fish for just about anything that swims whether it be in fresh or salt water with some people even catching Sail fish and Marlin on fly. In
the UK our main quarry are Trout, Grayling and Salmon but there are
other fish that we can target such as Pike and Carp. |

| Q.
Is it expensive to get started in fly fishing?
A. No, it has never been easier or cheaper to get started in fly fishing then it is today. Many manufacturers offer beginners kits which will contain every thing that you need to get started. You can buy all you need for as little as £150.
A. There are many qualified instructors in the UK who will be able to show you all about tackle, flies, casting and fishing. Read as much information as you can and ask as many questions as possible, fishermen are only too happy to offer you help.
A. Yes it will make your life so much easier in the long run. It is very difficult to change the way in which you cast further down the line if you haven’t been taught properly in the beginning. It’s like a golf swing it is very hard to change once you have got into bad habits!
A. Not at all, there are many women that fly fish all around the world and some of them put a lot of the men to shame. Women can fish for pleasure or can go on to fish competitively all the way up to international level.
A. It’s not essential but does save you money in the long term and allows you to create patterns that you other wise would not be able to buy. |
