Sedges
or caddis flies follow the complete metamorphosis life cycle. The larvae
can live freely or construct and live in cases made from sand, small stones
or debris creating protection from predation. Within these cases they
go through three stage of growth, larva stage, pupa stage and adult stage
called its "pharate" stage. The pharate adult ten leaves its
cocoon into the water. It then makes its way to the water bank or water
surface where it shucks its pupal case and emerges as a full grown adult.
It is during this time that trout will gorge themselves and is most easy
for the fisherman to catch an unwary trout on either an emerger pattern
or dry fly. |
